Busy, busy summer

This summer has been amazing! I am so sad to say that it will be over in a couple weeks.

As soon as I got into Virginia, I hit up my favorite places to eat, along with a creative reuse center not far from my mom's place, and local yarn store. Food and yarn are my priorities.

After about a week of knitting (and one blog post) my sister's came to town! We spent a day here then traveled to a couple southern cities known for being a little witchy and a lot fun.

Asheville, North Carolina is a beautiful place. Lots of OG hipster vibes. There is a lot of good coffee, antiques, and a beautiful Folk Art Museum. We stopped at a little winery on the way there because we'd been driving a while and wanted a break. We even hiked a mountain in the rain! It was beautiful but exhausting.

Then we hit the road and went to a rhyming town in Tennessee: Nashville. Nashville was a little more of a city than I like, but we had a great time. The old library is pretty much a museum! We saw pictures and read history about Civil Rights in Nashville. For lunch our first day, we found a vegan southern soul food restaurant called The Southern V. I highly recommend it! The next day was calm. We did only a little during the day, but in the evening we went to a lesbian karaoke bar. I sang Total Eclipse of the Heart and drank a couple Scotch and Sodas. The next morning was slow since we were all hungover. Finally, we all went our separate ways and I headed to Cleveland.

My brother and his family live there, so I figured I should stop in since it was pretty much on the way. I got to meet nephew number 2 and reintroduce myself to nephew number 1. Not very interesting, pretty loud, but not altogether un-enjoyable.

Back in Norfolk, I began knitting again only to find out my knitting class was cancelled because not enough people signed up for it. I was a little sad, but with preparations for Fantasci, I was glad to have more time.

Now, Fantasci (the sci-fi mini-con at the Chesapeake Central Library) is in a couple days and I'm finishing up everything. I made all the stock, tagged it, and downloaded my payment apps. I'm leaving for Guatemala about 36 hours after I finish up there, so I'm packing suitcases at the same time. Oh, and Lucy needs to go to a vet to confirm she's healthy enough to go.

I was nervous to go back to Guatemala, but I'm ready. One more year and then we'll see what happens next. Two things are certain at least: knitting and Lucy

Making it work

It's been a while, hasn't it? It's been a very stressful few weeks! First my birthday, which was not stressful, but rather busy. I made a complex dessert and a curry. I had a couple friends over for dinner, games, and cocktails. It was amazing. One got me some really nice Irish yarn! Birthday cake, knife included A little drunk chilling on the couch Then at the last minute the Guatemalan government decided we could teach in person when the city was on Red, which it couldn't do before. We found out at 5:00pm the night before (and the day after my birthday 😭). I adapted and managed to get to work with only a little annoyance. But on Tuesday, after being back only two days, I was forced to quarantine because two of my students tested positive. Then a parent did. Then another parent. So, a week of stress over if I was infected, because I HAD been exposed...We came back Wednesday, with parents of COVID positive children angry they had to wait a week, because of...

Whiskers on kittens

I've been busy, busy the past couple weeks! I realized I had a stricter time limit on a couple knit things than I thought, so decided to put the tree skirt on hold. It will be done by Christmas, yes, but I'm taking a break. I foolishly told a group of students at my school that I would make them a surprise. The surprise was knitted Christmas trees. They didn't take me long, but they were something else I had to do. Then I have Christmas stockings. I have a strict timeline, which turns out is about 2 weeks, to finish several Christmas stockings (4 now, I think). I've made 2. I take on too much at Christmas. Anyway, I'm leaving for a trip on Friday, and will be able to knit some while away. Not much, though. Here's what I have done so far:     And I would have done more, but I've been visiting my friend's kitten. He's a darling little thing but he won't let me knit.
